Concussion Care

Concussion is considered a form of traumatic brain injury, and is common in contact sports like rugby. It is therefore important that those who have sustained a concussion receive appropriate advice and treatment to ensure a safe return to to mental and physical activity.

The core principle in concussion care is to be aware when the injury has occurred and ensure the individual is removed from contact sport until they have recovered. For Rugby clubs in the UK this is a mandatory process before the player can return to full play.

Assessment and treatment of concussion is a specialist field and most family doctors are not trained or confident in this aspect of medical care. Dr Collins has extensive experience in concussion care at all levels of sport. He is therefore able to provide detailed guidance on how to return to activity and work.
