Art Therapy – Play & Creative Arts
Play and creative arts therapies are types of psychotherapy that use play and creative arts as a form of expression. The symbolic meaning of the things that are expressed can give insight to the therapist as to the feelings and thoughts of the client.
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that has been found to be particularly useful in the treatment of anxiety, depression and trauma. At times in our lives such feelings can be persistent, and we feel stuck with what seems intractable distress. Often a client will come to art therapy finding it difficult to express their feelings in words. Working with a therapist, image making can be a catalyst helping to access, articulate, and process these difficult feelings.
