Neurodevelopmental Assessment

For children, and for adults:  Neurodiversity differences and issues can be assessed and diagnosed with a Neurodevelopmental Assessment performed by a specialist psychologist.

This can enable strengths and challenges to be identified, and help to find resources and approaches to support the client in their day to day life, and refer for ongoing support as appropriate.

❇️  Children/ Adolescents:

Neurodevelopmental Assessment:  This is for children who may have learning difficulties, an autism spectrum disorders/conditions (ASD, ASC), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or difficulties with language, behaviour or motor co-ordination, including Tourette’s Syndrome.

Neurodevelopmental assessment is performed by a specialist psychologist, and focuses upon looking at the child as a whole and their strengths and weaknesses in terms of cognition and learning potential, social and communication skills, functional skills and speech and language development.

Child and adolescent neurodevelopmental assessments are aimed at early detection and intervention, considering the child’s developmental milestones and potential for change over time.  The tools used designed to evaluate developmental progress, taking into account the context of the family and school environment to understand the child’s needs.

Goals and Outcomes:  The goal is often to provide recommendations for educational support and therapies to promote development.

 

❇️  Adults:

Neurodevelopmental Assessment:  Carried out by a specialist psychologist, this is for adults who may have learning difficulties, an autism spectrum disorders/conditions (ASD, ASC), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or difficulties with language, behaviour or motor co-ordination, including Tourette’s Syndrome.

Assessments for adults focus on current functioning and how neurodevelopmental conditions affect daily living, employment, and relationships.  Tools used will consider the individual’s history, coping strategies, and adaptations developed over time, within the considers the broader social context, including work, higher education, and social relationships.

Goals and outcomes: The focus may be on accommodations in the workplace, strategies for independent living, and understanding oneself better.
